Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)
Environmental, Social, and Governance
Mountain Healthcare is dedicated to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into our operations, reflecting our commitment to sustainability, social responsibility, and ethical governance.
This page summarises our current and future commitments as an organisation.

Environmental Responsibility
In collaboration with ClimatePartner, we complete an annual Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) report, encompassing CO₂ emissions from January to December. This assessment enables us to identify key emission sources and develop targeted strategies for reduction. Our Carbon Reduction Plan for 2024 outlines these initiatives, demonstrating our dedication to minimising environmental impact.
Among other initiatives and activities, we proactively seek to employ local staff, have introduced hybrid working (wherever practicable), including digital collaboration systems and software, enhanced our online training offer, and developed tools such as e-Peer Review (reducing travel requirements for our national workforce).
For the future, we are developing staff education materials and active commuting challenges, as well as exploring electric vehicles and cycle-to-work schemes. We aim to achieve Net Zero by 2040.
Social Responsibility
We prioritise patient health and well-being, ensuring our services are clinically led, innovative, and focused on improved outcomes. Guided by our core values “Be Kind” and “Do the Right Thing”, we assist over 20,000 survivors of sexual assault and support more than 90,000 detained people in custody, each year.
We recognise our staff as our biggest asset. We invest heavily in employee wellbeing and have several initiatives and valuable resources in place. All staff has access to our Employee Assistance Programme, counseling service, Mental Health First Aiders, and Wellbeing Ambassadors.
Our commitment to social responsibility is further exemplified by our comprehensive training and development opportunities for employees, fostering a compassionate and skilled workforce. We provide staff with comprehensive internal training, accredited training, and access to a range of resources. Last year, we also invested c.£40,000 in external training for our staff.
We also support local initiatives, projects, and charities, and are in the process of formalising our Social Value Calendar of Events.
Governance
Our governance framework is built on transparency, ethical practices, and accountability. We involve commissioners in strategic decision-making processes, ensuring clarity and openness in our operations. Regular management and performance meetings, focus on enhancing service quality and aligning with our core values. These practices underscore our commitment to robust governance and continuous improvement.
By embedding ESG principles into our organisational ethos, Mountain Healthcare strives to contribute positively to the environment, society, and the communities we serve, while upholding the highest standards of governance.
